Description:  Oil Power. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in St. Louis, Missouri, c. 1950. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5786 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are BP-20's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5786 was constructed in December of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as a BF-16Z, and retired in September of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service.

Description:  Here is page 14 of a 15-page cover article by Walter A. Lucas entitled "Pennsy Power Parade." It was published originally in the December 1954 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 23. Top Photo Caption: "Wind-tunnel test shaped silhouette of these Altoona-built streamlined passenger steamers. K4s Class still runs on parts of the PRR high iron." Engine #3768 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in June of 1920, streamlined in 1936, and retired in October of 1953. Middle Photo Caption: "The latest thing in electric motive power is this beautiful two-unit Westinghouse job, shown leaving Philadelphia for a fast run to Potomac Yard." Engine #4996 is an E-3B electric built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and Westinghouse in June of 1951 and retired in June of 1965. Bottom Photo Caption: "No. 5786, typical of PRR's diesel fleet, pulls out of Chicago on Eastbound run." Engine #5786 is a BP-20 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in December of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, regeared and reclassified as a BF-16Z, and retired in September of 1962.

Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5786, #5861, and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #5786 is a BP-20 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in December of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, regeared and reclassified as a BF-16Z, and retired in September of 1962. #5861 is an EP-20 constructed by GM-EMD in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower.

Description:  La Grange. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in La Grange, Illinois, in March of 1965. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5786, a BF-16Z built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a BP-20 in December of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as a BF-16Z, and retired in September of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. In this context, it's parked at the GM-EMD plant as a trade-in for newer diesel-electric locomotives. Brad Mann Collection.
