Amtrak SUNSET
Description:
Amtrak's westbound
SUNSET
was preparing to leave New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal behind an eclectic set of power: Southern Pacific dual-control passenger geeps 3008 and 3009, Union Pacific E9B 958B (later AMTK 469) and UP E9A 958 (AMTK 430). To the left of the 13-car train, at the former Railway Express building, were privately-owned ex-Illinois Central observation cars 3305 and 3300.

IC 3305
Description:
Former Illinois Central observation-lounge car 3305 was on the rear of the northbound SOUTHERN CRESCENT at Carrollton Junction. This had been the location of Carrollton Avenue Station, and the paved area next to the train was the remnant of one of the two station platforms. The car was built by the IC in 1947 for service on the CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, and had been owned by the NRHS-New Orleans Chapter; but it was on its way to its new owners, the Roanoke Chapter, when this photo was taken.
